He started farming in 2003 and when he got his retirement package, he invested in upgrading his irrigation design and built a water reservoir in his farm. His source of water is mountain water propelled by gravity and uses a sprinkler irrigation system.
Mr. Dlamini produces mainly conventional vegetables which include cabbage, swiss chard spinach, lettuce and broccoli. He uses seeds and seedlings sourced from NAMBoard, Vickery, and a nursery behind Mahlanya market.
In as much as Mr. Dlamini has 2 hectares of land, he utilizes only 1 hectare effectively. He is a keen businessman who uses market strategy diligently. Mr. Dlamini is contracted to NAMBoard and also sells his produce to supermarkets, national markets and individuals. He gets assistance from NAMboard marketing extension officers and extension officers from the ministry of agriculture for crop husbandry.
The main challenges he faces during production include; birds eating his crop in the field and the flooding of markets after harvesting of which he acknowledged the introduction of AMIS where plantings around the country are registered to mitigate this challenge.
Sifiso has a precise vision for his farming business. He wants to build a packhouse within his compound so that he starts processing and branding his own produce. He also wants to mentor young farmers into viewing agriculture as a business.
Currently on the ground he has 10 000 heads of cabbage, 4 000 heads of lettuce and 2 000 heads of broccoli.
